Monumental Brass Facsimiles: An Annotated Catalogue
Publisher: Studio 69 Norwich, England, 1981

Monumental Brass Facsimiles: An Annotated Catalogue. Norwich, England, UK: Studio 69, 1981. Tall softcover. "….The original motivation behind the production of this range of facsimiles sprang some years ago from the concern of the clergy that the brasses in their care were exposed to excessive attention from brass rubbers with the consequent possibility of damage, both to the brass and the stone in which it is set. This led Michael Ward, a director of the company, and already an expert in the application of GRP techniques, to experiment in this medium using powdered brass and granite chippings to simulate the original materials. So sensitive is the moulding technique employed, that even the tiniest scratch on the original is reproduced on the copy, and rubbings taken from original and copy are indistinguishable one from another. From the basic concept of providing rubbing copies for churches has sprung a commercial venture which has the full co-operation of the churches concerned…." Two brochures of additional facsimiles are included in a pocket attached to the rear cover. 86 pages. Book is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. Paper wrappers. . No Jacket. Soft Cover.
