Around the Cracker Barrel: A History of Cheriton, Virginia

Publisher: Privately Published N. P., 1995
Around the Cracker Barrel: A History of Cheriton, Virginia. By William M. Kellam. NP: William M. Kellam, 1995. Oversized softcover. Cheriton is a small town of about 500 people on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. "One of the advantages of growing old is the privilege of being allowed to sit around the ‘Cracker Barrel’ and exchange stories with friends. Sometimes you gain a story in the conversation, other times you are able to give a story to someone. In either instance, this is a pleasant way to pass the time of day. It is said that History is not what actually happens, but what is reported as happened. So this is the History of Cheriton as told around the ‘Cracker Barrel’. Gathering around the ‘Cracker Barrel’ is a past time that has been going on in communities since the found of our Country. Cheriton is no different. It is here that ideas are exchanged and stories told, political candidates get their toughest reviews at these gatherings, some of the best farming is done here, the biggest fish are caught here, and most of all, remembrances of days gone by are exchanged. Most of the stories and History of Cheriton and the surrounding countryside have been gathered just sitting and chatting with Cheriton folks. Facts and dates of the Town have been verified from court records. I hop that as it is read, good memories will be returned to you." Illustrated. 54 pages + illustrations. This is a RARE TITLE that is very difficult to find! Book is in VERY GOOD condition. Paper wrappers. No Jacket. Soft Cover. Book condition: Very Good 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Privately Printed

Publisher: Studio 69 Norwich, England, 1981
Monumental Brass Facsimiles: An Annotated Catalogue. Norwich, England, UK: Studio 69, 1981. Tall softcover. "….The original motivation behind the production of this range of facsimiles sprang some years ago from the concern of the clergy that the brasses in their care were exposed to excessive attention from brass rubbers with the consequent possibility of damage, both to the brass and the stone in which it is set. This led Michael Ward, a director of the company, and already an expert in the application of GRP techniques, to experiment in this medium using powdered brass and granite chippings to simulate the original materials. So sensitive is the moulding technique employed, that even the tiniest scratch on the original is reproduced on the copy, and rubbings taken from original and copy are indistinguishable one from another. From the basic concept of providing rubbing copies for churches has sprung a commercial venture which has the full co-operation of the churches concerned…." Two brochures of additional facsimiles are included in a pocket attached to the rear cover. 86 pages. Book is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. Paper wrappers. . No Jacket. Soft Cover.
