8. Swartz, George W.   Bridges to My Maturity   Picture
Publisher: The Brethren Press , 1983 Elgin, IL. ISBN: 0871780925 Book. Book condition: Good. No Dust Jacket. S Signed by Author(s) SIGNED by the author on title page. "Many of my childhood experiences were centered around the old drawbridge that crossed the Choptank River at Denton, Maryland. This old bridge, now replaced by a high arch bridge, inspired me to think of it as a symbol--a symbol of the many bridges of learning and experiences that I crossed in the process of growing from childhood to maturity. Some of these learning experiences came about from the activities centered around the old drawbridge itself, while others came from the community surrounding it. Most of the opportunities for such experiences no longer exist and it seems only fitting to write about them, thus preserving them for my children, grandchildren, and other interested people." Publisher: The Americanism Committees of The American Legion and La Societe Des 40 et 8, 1937 Delaware New Castle, DE. Book. Book condition: Fair. No Dust Jacket. S 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall "The Flag of our Country is her standard, her symbol. This symbol stands for our history, our government, our institutions, our homes. It also represents our courage, our hopes, and our vision. To each of us, it means what our Country means. From its beautiful folds shine forth justice and righteousness; equality and opportunity; life, liberty and the right to pursue happiness. It is an emblem of peace with justice, of love with power, of devotion with daring, of friendship and freedom. By our work for the ideals for which it stands, we as American put meaning into its colors. Not with empty words do we pledge it our allegiance, but with hearts full of gratitude for our inheritance of liberty, and with determination to pass on to our children its glory, undimmed by selfish act or narrow thinking. The public schools of Delaware are deeply grateful for the assistance of the American Legion and the 40 & 8 in teaching the proper use of and respect for our Flag." The book combines the history of the United States, Delaware, our holidays and the Flag itself to give a presentation to Delaware's public school students, ca. 1937. Second edition, second printing. Oversized softcover. Well illustrated. 80 total pages. This is a VERY SCARCE TITLE that is difficult to find! 29. Brannock, Earl   Queen of the Chesapeake and Hudson   Picture
Publisher: Earl Brannock , 1986 Cambridge, MA. Book. Book condition: Very Good. No Dust Jacket. S 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Queen of the Chesapeake and Hudson. By Earl Brannock. Cambridge, MD: Earl Brannock, 1986. Oversized oblong softcover. "In collecting information about the Steam Ship Nokomis to be presented to the Maritime Hall of Fame, it became apparent that this story had been locked in the annals of history for too long a time. It was really a story of three dynamic men and the influence this ship had on their individual lives and successes; a story that needed to be told. The 'Golden Years' of large yachts was at an all time high. The industrial expansion of the United States and much of its early 20th century history seemed to become interwoven with the Nokomis. This yacht and its owners left a lasting impression of the drive and course that helped shape America into the country that it is today. For three decades the Nokomis served the rich and famous as well as numerous governmental agencies. There are few people living today with clear memories of this era of the large yachts. I am indebted to many for refreshing these memories; as they are revived, I feel confident in saying that there are many ships of equal importance but few that deserve the title 'Queen of the Chesapeake and Hudson.'" Publisher: Privately Published , 1995 N. P.. Book. Book condition: Very Good. No Dust Jacket. S 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Cheriton is a small town of about 500 people on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. "One of the advantages of growing old is the privilege of being allowed to sit around the 'Cracker Barrel' and exchange stories with friends. Sometimes you gain a story in the conversation, other times you are able to give a story to someone. In either instance, this is a pleasant way to pass the time of day. It is said that History is not what actually happens, but what is reported as happened. So this is the History of Cheriton as told around the 'Cracker Barrel'. Gathering around the 'Cracker Barrel' is a past time that has been going on in communities since the found of our Country. Cheriton is no different. It is here that ideas are exchanged and stories told, political candidates get their toughest reviews at these gatherings, some of the best farming is done here, the biggest fish are caught here, and most of all, remembrances of days gone by are exchanged. Most of the stories and History of Cheriton and the surrounding countryside have been gathered just sitting and chatting with Cheriton folks. Facts and dates of the Town have been verified from court records. I hop that as it is read, good memories will be returned to you." Illustrated. 54 pages + illustrations. 35. Fox, Norine Osbon, Illustrated by: Photos By the Author   Assateague Anthems   Picture
Publisher: Norine Osbon Fox, 1996 N. P.. Book. Book condition: Near Fine. No Dust Jacket. S 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Spiral-bound softcover. "The Atlantic barrier island of Assateague lies just off the coast of Maryland and Virginia, falling partially within the boundaries of each of these states. At the present time, the island is about thirty seven miles long, but barrier islands are constantly on the move. The often dramatically swift changes exert a fascination that lures us back, day after day, to scenes that are never quite the same as when we last saw them. These poems, inspired by the beauties of the island, were written or came into being, during my ramblings on Assateague. The photographs were taken with a simple Kodak disc camera, which fits very conveniently into any jacket pocket and is my constant companion. More sophisticated equipment would undoubtedly have produced better pictures; but its weight and setting-up time would have detracted from my enjoyment, which is the sole reason for my being on Assateague in the first place. The writing has been my pleasure. I hope that others may derive vicarious enjoyment of my beloved island through the reading." 87 pages with index. Book is in NEAR FINE (Almost New) condition.
